General discussion on choosing and keeping Freshwater fish and Invertebrates.

Your favorite freshwater fish??

Postby reefbum//gm333 » 09 Dec 2008, 20:41

I am sure everyone has had a favorite freshwater fish they are currently keeping or have kept in the past. If so tell us what it was, or is and a brief description.

My favorite freshwater fish of all time so far has to be the Haplichromis obliquedens "red tail"

I aquired this fish through "Ingrid" a breeder. I obtained 6 of these guys and fell in love with them almost the day I got them.
I bred several broods of these before having to find them very good homes. The last brood I gave to my mother who still has them from years ago. Actually this is one of my Mothers fish and one of my last brood.

While they may not be the biggest fish in the world, I doubt I'll ever pass up a chance to keep some of the Dwarf cichlids; especially Apistogramma cacatuoides

I always prefered the German Blue Ramirezi, but after keeping the A. cacatuoides I think I prefer them. So much personality and pretty, too.

I'd have to go with Clown Loaches (Chromobotia macracanthus)

Oh, yeah. They have a ton of personality, don't they? I'm down to one clown loach. So much fun to watch, though.

My current loach is the redtail loach. My favorite Dojo loach died this year after living for 6 years.

I can never do a good job of answering this question. My favorite freshwater fish that I am keeping in an aquarium right now is P. nicholsi. It is a wonderful little semi-west African dwarf cichlid.

My favorite freshwater fish, would have to be Oscars and my Convict cichlids. I loved my 2 oscars I used to have, 1 day, I would like to get another one. He has so much personality. Would eat EVERYTHING I put in the tank. hot dogs, shrimp, dog food, he would eat anything that was accidentally, or purposely put in. I often had bugs fall in the tank, mostly lady bugs, he would gobble them suckers up, haha. So yes, that would be my favorite. he was my buddy, I miss him, I had to give him away sincei was moving. He was one amazing fish 9+ inches long, when I took down the tank to sell it, I didn't have a home for my oscar, so I put him in the out door pond. He lived out there for a week, I think he loved it, more room to swim, bugs to eat. Last I heard he was still alive.

I dont think I have a favorite fish, I love them all. tiger barbs are fun to watch, on and on.

This Christmas 2 of my grandsons ages 14, where teasing me about wearing a big glove to get in the tank. So I told them go for it, rinse off your hands and see if they wont bite you. 2 big grandsons quickly squealed like a girl. I am still giving them a hard time. If only I had a video camera at that moment lol
