Maybe a tank divider the next time. I think they are a pain to put together, but Im sure it would work.

We have egg crate laying around that's conveniently cut to the width/height of the aquarium i normally would use it to separate the tank and then move all the live rock to the side that the fish I'm catching is NOT on, so I can get a quick clean catch. We also used it to separate larger fish that were brawling hard before we set up the 'fuge...

he still hasn't nipped the mantle under either of our watch and the clam's leaving it's mantle super wide open whenever the lights are on (cant blame him, if i were a clam under 3" of water with a metal halide directly over, and two more within a foot on either side of me, i'd be soaking in those rays too!)
