Nereaga's 75g Oceanic RR build

Postby Nereaga » 19 Aug 2009, 15:55

Well, my downsizing did not last as long as I would have thought. I could not pass up a recent deal from a local guy breaking down his setup. It is a 75 RR Oceanic tank, stand, and 30g Sump. Oh man! The stand is SUPER sweet as it has no center brace, full open front! I will finally be getting a DRILLED tank, no more external overflows!

Here was his for sale thread on RC:

Talk about hitting the jackpot!

More to come! :)

Hey guys,

Sorry for the delayed response, just got back from a well deserving vacation to the shore! :) Caught some rays and some waves.

Ry- I am happy to be back in your world! I really couldn't pass up this deal, especially with it being reef ready and drilled.

I cleaned the stand today and the sump. I also cleaned the glass on the tank, just need to really scrub down the overflow and we should be ready to go!

I also bought about 70lbs of live rock from a local guy breaking down his tank. It's a mix of fiji and marshall island rock, got it for $1 per pound! Not bad eh? :)

I will be going with sand again, as I just like the look too much to pass on it. I was really debating going bare bottom, but just doesn't look natural to me...

Picture time tomorrow! Yeeea! :)

More pictures! We are filled up with freshwater and we have no leaks! I did add about 2g of distilled white vinegar to help soften up the dead coraline algae on the overflow. I want to remove as much as possible from this once filthy tank. Looking good now though! :)

I must say how impressed I am with the Oceanic plumbing! SUPER quiet is not even the word. I can barely hear it running! Which is good, because it is in the living room next to the couch.

I am picking up 70lbs of established live rock from a local guy on Friday night. I am going to start mixing up about 40g of fresh saltwater for the change over. Things should be switching over this weekend! Super pumped! :)

More to come as usual!

Sweet setup! Makes me wish my tank was bottom drilled. Makes me wish I could make some changes to my tank when I move in October. Keep the updates coming!

Well made the switch today, took about 6-7 hours to get everything to where I want it and cleaned before I put it back in the 75g. I was too busy to take pictures along the way, my house was a disaster area during the swap. hahaha

Picture time!

The Octopus 800s couldn't run in the sump as I would have to modify it, extend the intake longer. I want to sell it so I don't wanna mess with anything at the moment. I am running it hob as you can see in the picture until I get an in-sump, which should be soon as I found a Octopus MW 110 locally for cheap too! :)

Still need to re arrange the corals a bit but everything looks to be doing well.
