Has the dieoff stopped receding?
If so you really dont have to cut off the dead area as it will regrow over it. If you just want to cut the dead area off so you dont have to look at it you can use a dremel tool with a cutoff disc to do this easier. I have yet to make a fragging video for suncoral. I guess I would need to get the suncoral first. If you look in the fragging zoanthid video you will see the dremel tool I am referring to. The disc on the end is a diamond tip cutting disc. You can get these at your local hardware store.
What you will need to do is cut the damaged area off getting as close to the undamaged coral as possible.
