Hey all!

Just wanted to give you all a sneak peak at my brand new friend! Despite my less than lack luster ability to refrain from bringing home new fish all of the time, it really has been a few months since I bought any new livestock. However, I couldn't pass this guy up and I think he will be a fantastic "centerpiece" for my 125 gallon tank. He is an electric blue Jack Dempsey:

I apologize for the bad footage (and the algae on the glass...I'm doing maintenance tomorrow) but I haven't been able to get any good pictures yet because he is so small but I will keep trying. Normally I am a big Mbuna fan and besides a couple dwarf cichlids, this is my first South American cichlid. As you might be able to tell, my 125 is full of community fish right now but I'll be changing that in the near future obviously.

That's a nice looking fish Tommy! It almost makes me wish I had a FW tank still.

Yea, I'm pretty excited about this little guy; especially when he isn't so little anymore. I had to rush him out of QT a little earlier than I'd like but he is doing very well and seems to have quite the personality. Hopefully I can get some better pictures of his soon as he gets more used to humans walking up on him. I am pretty sure this is the most expensive FW fish I've ever had (although I got a great deal).

Thanks for all the great photos by the way!

I finally broke down and read the instruction manual for my camera and was able to get a couple decent pictures of this little guy. Since putting him in my 125 gallon tank a few days ago, he seems to have staked out two territories, one on each end of the tank, and doesn't take any slack from my other fish, not even my much larger 5 bar cichlids. When it comes to humans though, he is still pretty shy but definitely getting more brave.

Even without the flash on, a little red light comes on when I take a picture with my camera and he didn't like it at all. I was lucky and got this semi-clear picture of him dashing away:

And I caught him trying to sneak across the tank a couple of times:

I couldn't get a shot of him near many of my other fish, but for comparison, I did get this picture of him next to the tail of one of my Chinese Algae Eaters, which is about 6 inches long:

He did warm up to me a little bit after 15 minutes or so and I was able to get a better picture of his color patterns:

The best news is that he seems to be catching on quickly and like my other fish, will stare out at us as feeding time approaches:

Wow! Those pics almost make me want to get ciclids (almost). ;) He sure is a good looking fish. One of these days I'll be setting up a new FW tank and when I do, I might have to find me one of those guys. Tommy... you're a bad influence on me.
