Cloudy water, and slimy brown stuff

Postby Shock » 17 Feb 2009, 19:24

well tank is doing ok as usual (I need to make a tank thread) But anyways. I havent done anything new to my tank, just all of a sudden the water is cloudy over night seems to be going away, which i figured it would, over night. But I was wondering what causes this?

Also I have some brown slimy crap in my fuge, and in my tubes going from fuge to phosphate reactor.... any idea what this stuff is? I can do nothing in my fuge without it stirring up this slimy stuff and putting it into my tank.

thanks!!

also I added a little 2 inch yellow tang :) figured as it gets bigger, it will make me have to upgrade tank!!

Hey Jason,

Since I see you have added more to your bioload by adding in the Tang, seems like the cloudy water is due to a bacteria bloom. Should go away in a day or two. You should do a water change if you can, would help out a bit.

The new algae bloom could also be due to the increase in bioload. If its in the sump, IMO, thats a good place for it! ;) Better than in the display!

well the brown crap has been in there for a while, few months maybe.

I would do a water change, but i have a feeling the problem would be gone by the time the water is done mixing :)

cloudy water was from those dang algae sheets. tang doesn't even go near them, but i left one on accident in my tank last night... again, arg. but that's the problem. its cloudy in their this morning.

You don't have to worry about sucking out a few copepods... they multiply like rabbits! I literally throw them out in the trash with handfuls of chaeto, and every time I pull a piece of live rock out to glue coral there's at least a half dozen 'pods twitching around on the towel under the rock when I go to put it back in the tank.

We had the same prob with some of the algae sheets we tried! tangs wouldn't go near them, clouded the water, and briefly caused cyanobacteria but only exactly where the algae sheets were placed. We changed brands and had no problems since.
