Algae

Postby Mortaliton » 25 Feb 2009, 06:34

my tank was overran with algae and i guess it is a ailment so i posted here.

Im pretty sure i have a solution but do not know if it will work. After removing all my fish, sand ect. if i fill the tank up with water and bleach will it kill the rest of the algae? ill use chlorine drops after and let the rest vapor off. Im just wondering if this is a plausible way of dealing with it?

Hey Mort,

The sign of algae is telling us that there is excess nutrients in the water that it is feeding off of. Do you test your water? Have you recently? Mind telling us what they are?

What is your water change regiment like aswell? How often do you clear your filters?

All of this will help gauge what the issue is...

Ended up finding up it was to much direct sunlight. is right by a window.

I put a blanket over my window for now. but i do not have tests. i did a overhaul of the tank so i have no tests from old water. but i do weekly changes and monthly with filter.
